Hi Green Lakers!

Only two more weeks until I leave for Nova Scotia! I am getting really excited. My equipment is almost all set up to video conference with my class "live from the field" and I only need to pick up a couple more things from the store to be ready for my trip!

One of the reasons I wanted to go on this adventure is because I love to travel. That is, I love visiting new places but I kind of hate the time it takes to get somewhere new. There are probably a lot of places that are just as far away as Nova Scotia that I would like to travel to. Want to help me find out what those places are?

Here is the latest challenge for you to answer:

Take a piece of yarn and measure how far it is on a globe to travel from where we live to Halifax, Nova Scotia, then cut the yarn to represent that distance. Now use that same piece of yarn to measure a different city I could visit that is the same distance away from where we live. Which city could I visit that is just as far away from us as the city of Halifax?

Post your answer as a comment to this entry, but remember that you cannot see your answer right away. I will have to let your answer show when I visit this blog next.

  1. Wow! This is a great challenge. Just like all teachers who learn from others, I may have to borrow this idea! Thanks!

  2. Room 5 did this lesson and our string stretched to Greenland and to San Salvador, which is in the country of El Salvador.
